CHESTER A. ARTHUR
(1829 - 1886) Twenty-first President of the United States who took office following the assassination of James Garfield. Unusual partly-printed D.S. boldly signed "C. A. Arthur" as Superintendent of Lights, 1p. oblong folio, New York, Sept. 30, 1872, being an account for "GENERAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE LIGHT-HOUSE ESTABLISHMENT" and specifically for "...disbursements made during the quarter ending Sept 30th 1872, as per vouchers from No. 1 to 59..." amounting to $7,133.91. Lightly toned at folds with a few minor pin holes along vertical fold, else very good condition. Simply matted and framed. Not examined out of frame.
