Description:

Charlie Parker Unused 1954 Concert Tickets (4)
A "fabulous history-making musical event" is promised in advertisements for this "Great Moderns In Jazz" concert at New York's Town Hall, held on October 30, 1954. Besides headliner Charlie Parker, the stellar line-up included Sonny Rollins, Thelonius Monk, Art Farmer, Horace Silver, Jimmy Raney, Wynton Kelly, and Hall Overton. Unfortunately, the concert was poorly publicized and poorly attended. In addition, during intermission, a share of Parker's earnings was impounded by the musician's union. Parker made his final recordings six weeks later, his death coming soon after, on March 12, 1955. Included here are four unused tickets for the event, formerly from the archive of the concert's promoter, Bob Reisner. 3.5" x 1.5", three are MT., with the tip of a corner missing on one, otherwise, MT.
