Description:

CHARLESTON SLAVE BILL OF SALE
Scarce partly-printed slave bill of sale, 1p. legal folio, Nov. 24, 1838, in which "a negro woman named Judy...with her future issue & increase..." is sold for the sum of $700. Very good. Charleston was of course the home to many notorious slave auctions, and this woman had likely come to the block. Indeed, this document is witnessed by "R. C. Geyer", and Geyer's Wharf in Charleston was the site of major slave auctions.
