CHARLES W. LINDBERG
LINDBERG (1920-2007) United States Marine who was part of the combat patrol that climbed Mount Suribachi and raised the first of two U.S. flags on the summit during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. I.S.P. 8" x 10" b/w, "Charles W. Lindberg, 1st Flag Raiser, Iwo Jima, Feb. 23, 1945 - 10:30 AM", on Louis R. Lowery's iconic photograph of the first flag to be raised over Iwo Jima. This flag would later be replaced by a larger flag, whose raising was photographed by Joe Rosenthal. Explanatory label on the rear of the photo, which identifies each man pictured. Fine.
