Description:

CHARLES MANSON (1934-2017) Drifter whose "family" committed the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. Black faux leather notebook kept by Charles Manson in his Vacaville, California cell. The 5 x 7.5 in. notebook contains about 100 lined pages, but only about 30 bear any writing. Some excerpts: "We need no reassurance in what we know...Honest people stay honest as long as it pays...treatment for crime...In the is of is is womans perfection - all behind that is man...Chrishna Christ Budda Mahamet..." There are also scraps of song lyrics: "Way down in the rag time, Way [down in] the blues mind...Grapes on the vine..." and a few handwritten addresses, notably: "Jerry Falwell Lynchburg VA". The last few pages bear dozens of words written out by Manson who was a notoriously poor speller - here he is testing himself on the appearance of the words as he writes them. The notebook also contains about twenty additional addresses cut from envelopes, two snapshots of unknown individuals, an article on the SS "Wolfsangle", and two letters from a fellow prisoner and Hell's Angels member offering Manson protection and warning him of danger in the prison yard. Broken at the spine, some pages disbound. From the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote "Manson in His Own Words".
