Description:

CHARLES MANSON (1934 - 2017) Drifter whose "family" committed the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. Fine grouping concerning a Manson threat against a witness. Includes a fine content A.D. signed with a swastika alone but clearly in Manson's hand and with supporting prison documentation, a postcard in pencil, Vacaville, October, 1976, addressed to "Lanir [Lanier] Raner". A year earlier Raner had testified that Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme had sought help to obtain "a couple of guns" a few months before her attemp on the life of President Gerald Ford. Ramer had known both Fromme and Manson in the Sixties. In his card, Manson writes: "...In the years youve known me & there have been a lot of years pass between us Youve never ever known me to lie. Your life depends on stopping the cutting of them trees - you are first on my list because you know. Your woman & children will not be overlooked. If they as you wish to live on this earth Git off them trees..." The card is stapled to a note from a prison official advising that Manson put his complaint to Ramer in letter form and less threateningly, and a prison form letter states that Manson's letter suggests it presents "a clear and present danger". Finally, there is an A.L.S. from Manson to the prison official, 2pp. 4to. Manson tries to explain his threat: "...I only meant he was a top person to help me because he knows much...when I said 'your woman & children will not be overlooked if they wish to live on this earth' I meant their reward for helping save the trees...the news paper people said about a death list...fear is a part of thought that will help us..." Four pieces. From the estate of Manson's biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote "Manson in His Own Words" and during their collaboration, Manson gave Emmons some of his personal correspondence.
