Description:

CHARLES MANSON'S TATE-LABIANCA MURDERS ARREST RECORD
A startling document concerning arguably the most famous murderer in American history, the original 'Los Angeles Consolidated Booking Form Jail Custody Record' with Manson's thumbprints, created when Charles Manson was first booked in Los Angeles for 'Robbery-Homicide' in the horrific Tate-LaBianca murders earlier the same year. This form, 8.25 x 6 in., was created on the very day Manson was indicted for the famous Los Angeles murders. He was already being held in Independence, Ca. on car theft charges when Los Angeles detectives were dispatched to arrest him following his murder indictment. Thus, this is the very first record of Manson's arrest for the Tate-LaBianca murders. The form sets forth Manson's full name and physical description, and notes that the alleged crime is: 'Robbery - Homicide'. It is indicated that Manson was arrested at Independence, Ca. on December 9, 1969 and booked at 2015 hours. Further details note that his occupation is 'Musician', he had no social security number nor was he employed, and that he was wearing a 'shirt leather' - the same shirt seen in famous photographs taken of his arrest that day. Manson indicated that he had 'NO ONE' to contact in an emergency, and it is noted that he possessed a 'lighter, b[all] p[oint] pen, misc papers in envelope' and $7.00 when arrested. On the verso appears Manson's large, black thumbprint which was taken 'WHEN BOOKED' by (ironically) 'R. Tate #J8922'. The print was rolled on giving it an almost square shape. It appears that Manson was at some point transferred from police headquarters to the county jail, at which time a second thumbprint was applied, this time being firmly pressed. The document is worn at the margins but is in otherwise very good condition. The Tate-LaBianca murders stunned the nation, and 'effectively sounded the death knell of '60s counterculture'.
