Description:

CHARLES MANSON RECORDED INTERVIEW
CHARLES MANSON (1934 - 2017) Drifter whose 'family' committed the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. A lengthy, revealing tape recorded interview with Charles Manson recorded on one side of a 60 minute cassette ca. 1980. The interviewer is unidentified but the content is quite good, opening with a discussion of Manson's relationship with his parents, how he learned from fellow inmates, the influence made upon him by the prison chaplain, etc. Manson discourses at some length upon Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi and the largely discredited 'Helter Skelter' motivation for the murders, and he generally blames society for 'the Charlie Manson you created...' He states that he generally gets along with his fellow convicts, and is asked what draws people to him. He also comments: 'You don't have to put me on the cross. I've already cleaned that bar up once...' Other interesting items includes Manson mentioning that he reads the Wall Street Journal and that if he was to be released, he would dedicate himself to cleaning up the environment. Near the end of the interview, Manson defines 'helter skelter' as 'confusion', the same confusion he faced whenever he was released from jail. This tape was given by Manson to his biographer, NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), who had once been jailed with and later befriended Manson. He co-wrote 'Manson in His Own Words' after extensive, long-term interviews with Manson in prison. The tape has been tested and functions flawlessly. Sold as-is, as the tape can be reproduced. The contents is believed to be, but not warranted as unique and not dubbed to the cassette. Copyright status unknown. In the original cassette case.
