Description:

CHARLES MANSON MURDER CHARGES DOCUMENT GROUPING (5)
CHARLES MANSON (1934 - 2017) Drifter whose 'family' committed the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. An extraordinary, most important group of five documents related to the capture and criminal indictment of Charles Manson for the seven Tate-LaBianca murders committed in Los Angeles on the nights August 9 and 10, 1969. All are unique originals. First is Manson's 4pp. 4to. 'rap sheet' mimeographed and with original pencil notations to the first page, [n.d.], generated by the Department of Justice's Bureau of Identification and Investigation in Sacramento, CA for per SOLA notation in ink at top right of first page. It includes Manson's physical description, Social Security number, FBI number, date of birth, etc. Beneath are listed 36 arrest and court citations dating from Manson's first arrest in Beaver, Utah on Fed. 16, 1951 on a charge auto theft, to Aug. 24, 1969 in Los Angeles, a marijuana charge, four days after the murders. The intervening years included multiple car theft charges, assault with a deadly weapon, forgery, mail theft, interstate transportation of females for purposes of prostitution, mail theft, escape from custody, and more, as well as lengthy prison sentences. Fine condition. The next document is the Los Angeles Sheriff's Division Inmate Reception Center certified copy of the indictment (a bench warrant) issued for the arrest of Manson, 1p. 4to., Los Angeles, Dec. 8, 1969, signed in type by Judge William B. Keene who would also indict five other Manson Family members. The indictment charges Manson with seven counts of intentional murder with malice (187 PC), as well as one count of criminal conspiracy (182 PC). It further indicates: 'No bail fixed' A file number is inked at top, and both sides of the document bear receiving jail intake stamps. Right margin heavily chipped but with no loss of text. Next is the 'Superior Court Temporary Commitment' order, 1p. 12mo., Dec. 11, 1969, ordering that Manson be held on the charge of '187 PC' (see above), and further ordering that he be held without bail until his next hearing on Dec. 22, 1969. This document also bears a prisoner receiving facility stamp on verso. Creases with significant marginal loss not affecting content. The next document is a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department 'Warrant Booking Abstract', a telex printout, 1p. 8vo., Dec. 12, 1969 related to Manson's warrant restrictions and making reference to 'BAIL $50.00', likely related to the charges Manson was already being held for in Independence, Ca. at the time he was indicted for murder.
The final document is a telex, 1p. oblong 8vo. Jan. 20, 1971, instructing the Sheriff's Department to: 'Please provide transportation to HOJJ for the below listed female prisoner...Glutz, Sadie 0313-059 re: court order granting meeting between defendants Glutz, Sadie 0313-059 and Manson, Charles 2373 803 and counsel'. Fine condition. Of course, 'Sadie Glutz' was the Manson Family name and alias used by murderer SUSAN ATKINS (1948-2009) who would be convicted for her participation in eight killings. Atkins' jailhouse confession to fellow inmates led to the arrest of four other Manson Family murderers, and she would later cooperate with prosecutors during the trial. Five pieces. An historic grouping
