Description:

CHARLES MANSON (1934 - 2017) Drifter whose 'family' committed the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders in 1969. A.Ms. (unsigned) marked: ‘Original (Please Return)' at the top, 5pp. large 4to., [n.p., n.d.], an original poem sent by Manson to Lynette ‘Squeaky' Fromme. In part: ‘...Snakes fly back through my mind's bird – words as holes in sound – that makes my world heard Birds fly back through the snake and sun...as now I am smileing [sic] and keep on smileing [sic] for your love for me is me and my love for you died long ago – Maybe bad face to what you think of me and change brain strain for its love for yourself is love that I gave and give you...I am that immortal as pillars in coming winds, eternal winds...Nothing to nothing and all to all...forgiving is living and I am dying...Tick tock talker...I don't want to set [sic] in the electric chair and fry...out of the past comes the patterns taught to die by and by...' Mailing folds, else fine. Accompanied by an A.L.S., 6pp. 4to., Alderson, Virginia, Nov. 17, 1987, penned by LYNETTE FROMME (b. 1948) 'Squeaky', a follower of Charles Manson, later attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford, failing to get a shot off when her gun jammed. The letter reads in part: ‘...a voice or thought tells me to do something and if I don't do it and do something else I want to do instead it gets messed up...Z may get a small job and stay a while. She got ½ of what Mel said he was sending today and a message that said the rest would come tomorrow...he didn't wire any until Wednesday and lied about it. I told him he doesn't know all the changes it put Zab through but that I know he has a conscience and will probably have to take the born again route and make us the villains again. I said...that you knew and not to put you in a spot because you have strong feelings about lies...Mel...is pathetic...he gets in a spot and lies. I hope you don't see him anymore than necessary if at all because he's a warm worm...' She signs ‘R' and then adds a lengthy postscript sending back the original poem by Manson quoted above, in part: ‘...I got the poems you sent...Here is the original back...I can't do Re poems yet because my thought is not loose enough. All our creative things come from your thought – inspired (Charliespired)...50 patches is a lot – I've got an idea how to make them easier when I figure out how to trace the pictures onto velvet or dark material...I want to see you. Blue went on a rampage trying to get to call you...' Minor tear at the bottom of the first page, else very good. Accompanied by original holograph envelope. From the estate of Manson's friend and biographer NUEL (MELTON) EMMONS (1927-2002), co-author of 'Manson in His Own Words'.
