(1818 - 1893) French composer of operas which include Sapho and Romeo and Juliette. Gounod also wrote the beautiful song Ave Maria. A.L. unsigned, 2pp. 8vo., [n.p.], Mar. 14, 1874, a true copy of a letter received from his friend Carpeaux, in French and not translated, but concerning an acquaintance who is suffering from severe medical problems, namely "violent inflammation and cancer". Mounting traces to left edge and on verso, insignificant tape stains, very good.
