CHARLES G. 'CHINESE' GORDON
(1833 - 1885) British soldier involved in the taking of Peking and suppressing the Taiping rebellion, resisted the siege of Khartoum when killed by forces of the Mahdi. Scarce A.L.S. "C. G. Gordon", 1p. 8vo., "Off Brindisi", Dec. 19, 1876, to "My dear Nugent". In part: "...You have just written to me lately, so I am much offended. I am en route home, but the picture is not at all clear, for me...[I] intend coming in to see you all...". Near fine. Gordon had just completed the establishment of stations along the upper Nile, and under strong pressure, he would return the following month to become Governor-General of the Sudan. Ex: Benjamin .

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
