Description:

CHARLES DE GAULLE (1890-1970) French statesman who led Free France against Nazi Germany and chaired the provisional French government from 1944-46. An original election poster, 20 in. x 30.5 in., Paris, 1965, bearing a long message from De Gaulle, in part: ‘Twenty-five years ago when France was rolling over the edge I thought I had to take charge to lead her until she was liberated, victorious, and in control of herself. Seven years ago I thought I had to come back to its head to save it from civil war, prevent it from monetary and financial bankruptcy, and build it with institutions that meet the demands of the modern age…. Today I believe I must be ready to continue my task….Thus in front of all peoples, the historic ballot of December 1965 will mark success or renunciation of France vis-à-vis itself…I hope, I believe, I know that she will triumph because of you. Long live the republic, Long live France!' The message concludes with a facsimile signature of De Gaulle, and a large portrait provides the background. . Very fine condition.
