I do consider it an honor & privilege to have my forthcoming work translated by you; but Prof Victor Carus, who has translated all my books has already half finished the present one. I you have any communication with Mrs. Davie, will you be so kind as to thank her for her obligatory letter which accompanied yours...." Lehmann's wife has penciled an identification on the verso, indicating that the work to be translated was Darwin's Expression of the Emotions. A fine one-page example.
