Description:

CHARLES CARROLL
(1737 - 1832) Signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of the Continental Congress. A.L.S. with integral address leaf, 2pp. 4to., Baltimore, Nov. 18, 1825, to David F. Brice. Largely financial content in which the Signer discusses the case of his debtor, a William Nichols, having had his property "distrained". Carroll considers Nichols "an honest man", and also wheels and deals, offsetting another debt partially through the sale of shingles. He closes his letter by insisting that adding plaster to soil "is too light for wheat" but will "stiffen the soil, improve it by producing clover...". Near fine.
