Description:

(1737 - 1832) Maryland Signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of the Continental Congress. Manuscript D.S. "Ch. Carroll of Carrolton", 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Jan. 19, 1798, his authorization for Richard Caton to receive dividends on his behalf which may be paid by the Baltimore Insurance Company, to vote for directors of the firm, and any other corporate matters which Carroll's own position with the firm would have allowed. Signed at bottom, also witnessed by his son, CHARLES CARROLL, JR. (1775-1825) (sometimes known as Charles Carroll of Homewood because he oversaw its design and construction), who married Harriet Chew (1775-1861) and lived in Philadelphia. Evenly toned, a split beneath the signature archivally mended on verso and nearly indiscernible. Caton was Carroll's son-in-law.
