Description:

CHARLES A. 'PRETTY BOY' FLOYD WANTED POSTER
CHARLES A. 'PRETTY BOY' FLOYD (1904–1934) American bank robber operating in the West and Central states, his criminal exploits gained widespread press coverage in the 1930s. He was seen positively by the public because, during robberies, he burned mortgage documents freeing many people from their debts. He was pursued and killed by a group of Bureau of Investigation (BOI, later renamed FBI) agents led by Melvin Purvis. REPRODUCTION Bureau of Investigation-issued wanted poster, 8 in. square, June 22, 1933, bears his facsimile signature, aliases, previous crimes, and the crime for which he is wanted by the BOI: ‘...the murder of Otto Reed, Chief of Police of McAlester, Oklahoma, William J. Grooms and Frank E. Hermanson, police officers of Kansas Cirt, Missouri, Raymond J. Caffrey, Special Agent of the United States Bureau of Investigation, and their prisoner, Frank Nash, at Kansas City, Missouri, on June 17, 1933.' Heavily toned, chipped top corners with a hole in the center and presumed burn marks, just good. The murders that Floyd committed here would forever be known as the ‘Kansas City Massacre', and they would inevitably cost him his life as he was still on the run for the murders when he was killed in 1934.
