Description:

(1902 - 1974) American aviator who, in his 'Spirit of St. Louis', was the first to fly solo non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. LINDBERGH'S COPY OF SAINT-EXUPEREY'S 'NIGHT FLIGHT' A superb association book, Charles Lindbergh's copy of Antoine de Saint-Exupery's gripping novel, 'Night Flight', signed by Lindbergh within. The book is the 1932 first edition, 2nd printing published in New York by The Century Co., 198pp. 8vo., rebound in blue cloth and blue leather with gilt titles. On the front flyleaf, Lindbergh placed his signature: 'Charles A. Lindbergh Englewood N.J.' in black ink. Fine condition. 'Night Flight' is the tale of a South American air mail pilot lost in a storm while driven to deliver his cargo. Saint-Exupery more importantly portrays the pilots as renouncing everything in a cause in which they believe. Of course, Lindbergh was an air mail pilot also, so this novel was certainly of great interest to him. Fine condition. Lindbergh and his wife Anne lived at Anne's father's estate in Englewood, also spending time at their home in Hopewell, New Jersey. In the same year this book was published, their baby, Charles, Jr., was kidnapped and murdered by Bruno Richard Hauptmann.
