Description:

CHARLES A. LINDBERGH'S FLYING CAP AND GOGGLES
A superb pair of relics, a flying cap and goggles owned and used by world-famous aviator Charles A. Lindbergh. The flying cap is a promotional white cotton cap with buckle and strap closure and loops to which a goggle's strap was held, and bearing at the front a patch reading: "PENZBEST KENDALL MOTOR OILS". The cap is age-toned and bears a small tear, else very good. The aviator's goggles bears chromed steel hinged frames with clear glass lenses, held to the face by a 1" wide elastic strap. A now somewhat decomposed grey rubber gasket kept moisture from entering between the face and the eyes. These two items come to us from the personal collection of noted relic collector Dr. John Lattimer. Lattimer's collection of Lincolniana was unsurpassed of worldwide fame. Few however know that he and Lindbergh were closely associated, both as friends and professionally. Lindbergh often visited Lattimer at Columbia University while the latter was conducting research on his artificial heart. Lindbergh learned that Lattimer was an ardent collector, and at one of their dinners at the Lattimer home, presented the famous surgeon with these souvenirs of his flying days. Lattimer refers to their friendship in his defense of Lindbergh's reputation in his book, Hitler's Fatal Sickness. We removed these relics directly from the late doctor's home, and they are accompanied by a notarized statement from his daughter attesting to their authenticity.
