Description:

CARY GRANT'S LEATHER DESK BLOTTER
Presentation leather blotter given to actor CARY GRANT (1904-1986), 12 x 17 closed, 25 x 17 in. opened, gilt-trimmed leather covers, brown silk-lining fixed to stiff cardboard which in turn opens to reveal four sheets of blotting paper. When first opened, the blotter pears a gilt printed presentation: 'To Cary Grant In Appreciation M[otion]. P[icture]. R[elief]. F[und]. 3-1-48' In poor condition with stains to covers, seams burst, lining coming loose, and fabric tattered in places - but presentation inscription is fine. The Motion Picture Relief Fund (now the Motion Picture and Television Fund) was founded in 1921 by Mary Pickford and others to help support those in the industry who had fallen on hard times. In time, hospitals and homes were built with contributions made by thousands in the trade. In his estate, Grant left $50,000 to the fund as well.
