In part: '...Your letter by Mr. Ball I recd. but being called from the Assembly to adjust the Accts. of two of the Cutters to embark two of my Sons by them for Europe, prevented my giving you the Acct...The Goods you wrote for were not in Richmond...I am at this time in want of ten of fifteen Hogs[heads] of upland Tobacco for Capt. Callender to make good for my last paymy. for the unfortunate Ship he commanded...The other day in settling a Ship'g Acct. with Mr. Robt. Morris I found a charge agst. me for a Bill of yours...I know nothing of this not do I recollect what bill it can be...If you desire me to pay it I will take tobacco for it & will satisfy Mr. Morris' Bills to be settled at the current rate in currency & Credit given according to the price of Tobacco...Will you never come over & see a friend for a Day or two. It will really be a Chanty now as we shall be very lonesome & pensive on our Boys leaving us...' Some old mounting remnants on verso, two tiny chips in margins, else fine. Ex: Sotheby's.
