Description:

(1862-1946) American singer and songwriter who became the first woman to sell one million copies of a song with her hit 'I Love You Truly', regarded as the most successful female composer of her day. Good content T.L.S., 2pp. 4to., Hollywood, March 23, 1925, to a high school instructor sending her advice for high school kids. In part: '...working at something that you enjoy, work is pleasure and it is good to live...Find out what you enjoy the most, what you have the greatest talent for. Some folks want to be singers who have no voice. It is foolish in such a case to want to be a singer...And to succeed you have to work a good many times when you are very, very tired...A really ambitious person never works by the clock.' Included with another T.L.S. on personal letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Grossmont, Dec. 11, 1927, response to a request for a signed book, as well as a 7 x 9 in. S.P., featuring a b/w seated pose. Three signed items.
