Description:

CARL VAN VECHTEN
(1880-1964) American photographer, author, and crime reporter. Among his books were The Blind Bow-Boy, The Tattooed Countess, and Nigger Heaven. He then quit writing to become one of the most successful portrait photographers of the time, capturing the noted celebrities of the day in a journalistic, but uncompromising, dramatic fashion. Superb photographic portrait of playwright William Inge, 8" x 10" b/w, bearing Van Vechten's photographic backstamp on verso with the note: "William Inge XI-MM.8 September 4, 1954". The slightest of wear to edges, otherwise fine.
