Description:

CARL 'TOOEY' SPAATZ
(1891-1974) World War II American general who initiated daylight bombing raids over Germany and oversaw the dropping of the atomic bomb. First chief of staff of U.S. Air Force. Good content T.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Chevy Chase, Nov. 20, 1968, to cadet Corbin Ross answering a series of questions posed to him. In part: '...1. In your personal experience as a military officer what action or battle was most successful? In chronological sequence I would list...The Invasion of North Africa; The Invasion of Sicily...and the Allied landings in France...3. What military advantage did you gain as a result of the action?...It would be inappropriate to say that I gained any advantage. General Eisenhower's Allied Forces, of which I and my Air Forces were a part, succeeded in landing on a hostile shore and initiated the campaigns which eventually resulted in the destruction of Hitler's tyranny...the German Luftwaffe had been reduced to such a state that it could not and did not interfere with the cross-channel operation...' Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house.
