Carl Sandburg 1878-1967 American writer considered the poet of the common man, Sandburg also authored comprehensive biographies of Lincoln. his autograph poem signed, "Canticle", 12 lines on 1p. 4to., New York, 1950, in part: "...Bless thee, O Lord, for the living are of the sky over me this morning. Bless thee, O Lord, for the companionship of night mist far above the skyscraper peaks I saw when I once woke during the night...." Written while visiting Pulitzer Prize winner C. D. Batchelor, this poem is likely unpublished. One damp stain marginally affects a few words, but hardly detracts.
