Description:
(1884-1945) German conservative politician, executive, and opponent of the Nazi regime and a staunch anti-Nazi. Had the 20 July plot to assassinate Hitler of 1944 succeeded, Goerdeler would have served as the Chancellor of the new government. He was executed by hanging on February 2, 1945. Very rare T.N.S. 'Goerdeler', 1p. 4to., Leipzig, June 2, 1930, thanking a Bertha Hoffmann for sending him congratulations and a 'beautiful poem'. This letter was notably sent just a couple weeks after his election to mayor of Leipzig. Signed in black ink at the conclusion. Usual folds, signature notably smudged, else very good.
