Description:

CAPTURED GERMAN MAP OF DACHAU
A chilling relic of the infamous German concentration camp at Dachau, an American soldier or administrator's captured and very well-worn map of the city, clearly used shortly after the liberation of the camp, part of which also appears on the map. The map, printed in Dachau in blue ink, is a top-view street map which includes at extreme right the eastern part of the camp, as well as 'Lager Strasse', 'Eicke Pl.' and 'Strasse der SS', the street upon which were located some of the fine quarters used to house the highest ranking SS personnel of the camp and its associated facilities. The owner of the map used a red indelible pencil to show the location of important facilities, including 'Dachau Patrol', 'Dachau DP Camp', command posts, warehouses, bridges, food storage facilities, etc. At right, a large section of the eastern part of the camp appears to be included as well. The map shows very heavy use, is worn, wrinkled, and soiled, with old tape repairs - clearly it was used on the scene. A frightening relic.
