CAPTURED GERMAN FLAG SIGNED THE DAY AFTER THE FALL OF TRIER
An excellent piece of militaria, a two-sided cotton NSDAP flag, approx. 33 x 74 in., the center white roundel signed by 38 officers and men of the 736th Field Artillery Battalion in Trier, Germany the day after the surrender of the city. At bottom, the flag is fancily captioned 'TRIER - GERMANY March - 3 - 1945' and signed by its owner, Cpl. Michael Tersillo. Among those signing is Major Charles S. Brice, a commander of the battalion. Sold with a color copy of Tersillo's March 29, 1945 bring-back papers mentioning the flag which was removed by us from the very box Tersillo sent home from Europe. On March 2, 1945, the city of Trier surrendered to the U.S. 10th Armored Division after almost daily bombardment by American artillery and British and American air attacks. During the entire war, 1,600 houses in the city were completely destroyed.
