Description:

CAP ARCONA STEAM LINER DOCUMENTS
A pair of documents relative to the Oct. 10, 1936 voyage aboard the ocean liner ‘Cap Arcana' from Hamburg to Rio De Janeiro. Includes: a partly-printed D.S. 1p. 4to., the original ticket issued to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Arp and their children on Oct. 10, 1936, and an original printed pamphlet dated Oct. 15, 1936, with a list of guests including their class of tickets, crewmembers, and information about the vessel. Together with an unrelated printed certificate confirming that Gloria Arp attended a childcare course in Rio, July 17, 1944. Folds and foxing, overall good. The SS ‘Cap Arcana' was the flagship of the German ‘Hamburg-South America Line', making her maiden voyage in Oct. 1927. During WWII, she served as a Nazi accommodation and prison ship. Her service culminated in her notorious sinking while carrying concentration camp prisoners in May 1945, when she was bombed by the RAF, killing over 5,000 people. This would be one of the largest single-incident maritime losses of World War II.
