( Cannonball From Fort Sumter) A most unusual Civil War relic, an iron cannonball, approx. 3.5in diameter, about three pounds, excavated at Fort Sumter and presented to Confederate general Marcus J. Wright. The letter of provenance reads in full: This cannonball, a relic of the great rebellion between the states, was excavated on the site of Fort Sumter, Charleston Bay, South Carolina, this day, April 12th 1915 [the 54th anniversary of the bombardment], and is hereby presented to General Marcus Joseph Wright on this fifteeth [sic] anniversary . A wonderful item for display!
