Description:

CANDID HOLOCAUST PHOTOGRAPHY
A set of five photographs, mostly candid, depicting German concentration camps and roundups of Jews. Of tremendous interest are two candid 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" b/w photographs taken by German soldiers. The first, printed on Agfa paper, shows several men being paraded through the streets (two of the men are obviously Orthodox) by a German soldier. The photo bears a grease pencil note on the verso "Polenish Typen." The second 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" photograph shows three Jewish adults and three children standing in front of a house (with several others in the background). That photo bears an ink notation on the verso: "Polen vor dem Feldzg. 3 Rabbiner in Biljorey". Another black and white photo (4" x 2 1/2") shows a man and a woman (with another man leaving the frame at left) conversing in what appears to be a ghetto in Poland (note armbands). The collection also includes a candid snap (4 1/2" x 2 3/4" b/w) of the exterior of the Dachau crematorium and gas chamber building taken in August 1945. Also accompanied by a published photograph (5" x 4" sepia) of a man stirring human bones in a crematorium. Together, five pieces in very good condition.
