(1828 – 1896) Union general who served at First Bull Run, resigning his commission in April of 1863. War-date partly-printed D.S. as colonel, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Jan. 1, 1862, a requisition of the 31st Regiment N.Y. Vols. For additional troops to fill its ranks. In part: '...For Two Hundred and Thirty-five Recruits...necessary to fill said Regiment to the required standard...' Signed by Pratt at the conclusion, with the approval signatures of JOHN NEWTON (1825-1895) Union major general who took over Reynold's command at Gettysburg, fought at Antietam and Chancellorsville as well, and WILLIAM B. FRANKLIN (1823-1903) Union major general blamed for the Union debacle at Fredericksburg. In 1864 while recovering from wounds he was captured by Jubal Early, but escaped. Both men sign as brigadier generals. A nice association, very good condition.
