CALVIN COOLIDGE
(1872 - 1933) Thirtieth President of the United States who succeeded to the presidency upon the death of Harding. Partly-printed D.S., 1p. folio, Washington, Feb. 6, 1929, an appointment of Walter J. Wilde to the post of ‘Collector of Customs for Customs Collection District No.37'. This document is also signed by Secretary of the Treasury ANDREW MELLON (1855-1937) U.S. Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover. Scattered foxing, otherwise very good. Framed. Walter J. Wilde was a resident of Milwaukee County and was involved in Wisconsin politics throughout his working life. He served on the Milwaukee County Board of Administration from 1918-1921, as Secretary, County Trustee, and Vice President from 1924-1933, was U.S. Collector of Customs 39th District, a County Court Appraiser and Secretary of Fairchild Club. In 1940 he was appointed by President Roosevelt as Director of the Selective Service in Wisconsin.
