Description:

1659. JAMES CAGNEY (1899-1986) American actor who made his name in gangster roles in films of the 1930's. Nice content A.L.S. "Jim", 2pp. 8vo., Stanfordville, Sept. 12, 1968, to Anne, in part: "...The recordings arrived while we were away at Nantucket. I started a search for the record player. Gone! The place has been buglaryized [sic], vandalized and paralyzed by a juvenile, gray-haired juvenile, and another electrician who charged $7.50 to $8.00 an hour. Somewhere along the way, the record player went with them...Paul O'Brien wrote me some time back telling me one of the net works wanted to do a `special' on me covering my forty years in show business....Well, in any case, I wrote Paul and I was completely thru with the business, wanted no more of it. etc. etc...I did a bit of narration for a producer friend a couple of years ago and the word was out that I was again ready to `don the sock and buskin'. It took awhile for the calls and the letters to die down..." Boldly penned and in fine condition. $100-150
