C.B.I. OFFICER'S TUNIC WITH THEATER-MADE PATCHES
Excellent World War II-date tunic once belonging to an experienced Signals Corps Officer within the Tenth Air Force, which controlled all USAAF combat operations in the China-Burma-India Theater from 1942 to 1943. A quality tunic constructed of green garbardine wool, the tunic is closed at front by four high-quality multi-piece gilt buttons bearing the Seal of the United States, with the exception of one replacement button of brass, bearing no seal. Lapels are each adorned with one DI indicating a signals unit, and one U.S. device, all of extreme high-quality. Attachments for all four devices are matching clutch posts with a Phinney clutch, two per device. Shoulder straps are fastened on ends with matching high-quality multi-piece gilt buttons, and are adorned with two high-quality gilt oak leaf rank insignia, indicating the rank of Major. Each sleeve bears custom officers sleeve tresse of brown/green sewn on 3.25 inches from the cuff seam. The cuff of the left sleeve bears four custom gilt bullion insignia bars denoting the wearer's overseas tours, indicating overseas assignment of two years. The right shoulder bears a high-quality theatre-made China-Burma-India shoulder patch, constructed of silver bullion and red thread constructed on a blue felt background, in near mint condition. While the left breast bears five medal ribbons on two bars, American Defense Campaign Ribbon with one campaign star (possibly Aleutians), combined with a Europe-African Middle East Campaign Ribbon above, and below a three medal ribbon bar including; American Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with one battle star, and the WWII Victory Medal with one battle star (indicating service in WWI). A manufacturing tag within the tunic below the left breast inside pocket, indicates the tunic is manufactured by 'Basson Tailors New York', within the inside pocket there is another Basson Tailors tag with the owners handwritten name, and a handwritten date: '9-4-41'. Other features include two pleated breast patch pockets, two flap closure hip pockets, all featuring matching high-quality multi-piece gilt buttons bearing the Seal of the United States. The tunic exhibits two sewn-in brass belt hooks, and included is the matching tunic service belt. An unusually high quality officer's uniform in fine condition.
