Description:

"BUNDLES FOR BRITAIN" PARACHUTE DOLLS
Good pair of unusual World War II-era dolls, each approx. 6" tall, distributed under the names "Pat-Parachute" and "Patsie-Parachute" by the charity Bundles for Britain, Inc. The dolls, designed and produced by Estonian-born American aviatrix Elvy Kalep, feature painted wood heads with bodies of either stuffed felt or wood with cloth clothing, both with Royal Air Force patches sewn thereto. Both dolls are attached to rayon parachutes; when thrown into the air, the doll would then drift back to earth on the parachute. Included is a paper instruction slip, demonstrating use. Both dolls are housed in paperboard boxes bearing "Bundles for Britain" labels, and both are in very good to fine condition, with the packaging in very good condition. Bundles for Britain was established in New York in 1940, and donated some $1.5 million worth of knitted goods, ambulances, surgical instruments, medicines, cots, blankets, field kitchens, operating tables, used clothing and children''s toys to the besieged British Isles.
