234. MOSES BROWN (1738 - 1836) American abolitionist and inventor, designed and built the first water-powered cotton mill in the United States with Samuel Slater. Brown broke from his family after converting to Quakerism, primarily because of his family's refusal to end its association with the slave trade. Brown became an active abolitionist and an advocate for African Americans, both slave and free Very rare subscription and signature: "Feeble with age...yet my Love for the Brethren &...Cause of Truth remains firm. We have nothing material [?] more at present than Love to Self, family & friend...". Mounting, light glue stains at corners, else very good. $200 - 300
