Description:

BRITISH 1822 EAST INDIA COMPANY OFFICERS SWORD
A British 1822 pattern sword, 32 in. pipe back blade 39 in. overall, for an officer of the East India Company, with gilt brass fittings. Intact fish skin grip with wire wrapping, slightly loose in a few places. The brass guard features the cypher of King George IV, a gilded knot attached. On the reverse of the black leather scabbard on the first brass fitting is an inscription announcing the maker as Francis Deakin and designating him as a sword maker of the East India Company. Expected cracking to the leather scabbard, overall very good. Pitting of the blade slightly intrudes on the fine etching, however, the acanthus decoration and King George IV cypher are still visible. Red leather belt with gilt embroidery attached to the brass hangers. The interior of the belt bears the maker mark for ‘Jones & CS Manufacturers of Military Equipment' of London in gold lettering. A very good and complete example.
