1533. JOHANNNES BRAHMS (1833 - 1897) German composer and pianist, a prime exponent of the Romantic school of composition, created symphonies, piano works, concertos, and his famous "Lullaby". Scarce A.N. on the verso of his printed calling card, 1p. 16mo., in German, in full: "45 Mark = 27 Th[aler] 97 Kr[oner]. I confirm hereby having received this amount from Leipzig [concert administration] through the kind arrangement of Frau Tuxa, Thun. June 1888". At this time Brahms was vacationing in Thun, Switzerland, a spot he often visited for musical inspiration. At the time of this note, Brahms produced the Violin Sonata in D-minus, Op. 108, which he dedicated to conductor Hans von Bulow. Boldly penned and very fine. $800 - 1,000
