WILLIAM BOUGUEREAU (1825-1905) French academic painter who during his lifetime painted eight hundred and twenty-six paintings, many of which hang in over one hundred museums throughout the world. His contemporaries Degas and Monet reportedly named him as most likely to be remembered as the greatest 19th century French painter. Rare cabinet photograph inscribed "Madame Leslie D. Ward Compliments / Wm. Bourguereau ," on bottom mount. A waist-length pose, taken later in life, by Maison Ad. Braun & Co., [Paris]. Very good. $500-600
