387. FRANK BORMAN (b. 1928) American astronaut who served in the Gemini and Apollo programs. Superb content T.L.S. on Eastern Air Lines letterhead, 1p. 4to., Miami, July 30, 1985, in part: "...I believe your proposal to the Postmaster General for issuance of a postage stamp honoring the three astronauts who died in the tragic fire is a very good one. These men lost their lives for their country, and a postage stamp in their memory is certainly befitting..." Fine condition. On January 27, 1967 astronauts Roger Chaffee, Gus Grissom and Edward White were killed during a training exercise when fire swept through the cockpit of their cabin. $200-300
