Description:

BLANCHE BARROW SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH GROUPING
A fine and rare collection of 36 candid photographs kept by the family of BLANCHE BARROW (1911-1988), the sister-in-law of CLYDE BARROW (1910-1934) and wife of MARVIN 'BUCK' BARROW (1903-1933). Blanche and Buck were both members of the notorious Barrow Gang, and one or both were present during many of the gang's most famous robberies and shoot-outs. Buck would die as a result of wounds during an ambush, and Blanche would serve ten years for attempted murder. These photos, most measuring approximately 2" x 4", b/w, mainly show Blanche, Buck, or both, with a few showing other relatives. Several are signed by Blanche: an image of her with hands on hips signed on front "Just mad B.B."; reclining on a lawn, inscribed: "Lest you forget BB"; a portrait photo ca. 1942 signed in full on verso: "Blanche B. Frasure" also setting forth her address, hair, eye color, weight, age, etc.; a full-standing pose in tank top and white pants inscribed on front: "love to dad Blanche"; a photo of her reclining by a fish pond so described by her on verso, initialed and dated June 16, 1935; a seated pose on a large rock signed "Lest you forget Blanche"; a sultry 1924 full length image with fur, inscribed to "Jeff" and initialed at bottom (initials partly cut-off); and a full length swimsuit pose, initialed on the front. The best is a ca. 1930 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" full-length pose in a fine dress inscribed on front: "love to Dad". The verso bears a long, signed message to her father: "These are not very good but you can tell I am well and getting along fine. So dear don't worry this was taken beside the hospital where I live. I will have some more taken soon and send you a good one if I can take a good one ha ha. Now cheer up dear and get well so you can see your big fat baby girl some of these days before long. Always with love. B. B. " A superb collection with a total of eight signed photos, 36 pieces in all. Overall very good condition.
