1368. ALBERT F. BLAKESLEE (1874-1954) American botanist and genetic engineer who applied the drug colchicine to dividing cells of plants, causing a doubling of the number of chromosomes with altered traits in the treated organisms. Fine content T.L.S. on Smith College Genetics Experiment Station letterhead, Northampton, Apr. 21, 1953. In part: "...This may help in your efforts to double chromosome numbers by the use of colchicine..." Blakeslee then explains that colchicine itself is quite expensive, but if the facial product "...'Hind's Honey and Almond Cream is cut with an equal amount of water, an acceptable colchicine solution will result!".
