BLACK SERVANT INDENTURE
Partly-printed D.S. 2pp. legal folio, West Springfield, Mass., Dec. 1, 1789 in which Jupiter Richard, likely a free black, agrees to work as a servant for Samuel Flower, a military colonel, for a period of twenty years. Jupiter Richard was unable to pay a judgment of five pounds "...pronounced against the sd. Richard (for Theft) at their Term at Northampton on the last Tuesday of August last...", and another judgment for theft later that year. Signed by Richard with his mark. Clean fold separation, otherwise very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
