785. DAVID BELL BIRNEY (1825-1864) Union major general who replaced Phil Kearny, he fought at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. In October, 1864 Birney succumbed to malaria, dying at his home. War-date A.D.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., "Head Quarter's 23rd Regt", Oct. 19, 1861, a pass granted to Samuel F. Bolton "to Washington and back on important private business till 5 O clock P.M..." Irregular margins, otherwise very good. $200-300
