Description:

Bill Haley & His Comets Twice-Signed Contract
This two page contact and supplement rider between the rock n roll pioneer and his booking agent, Jolly Joyce, is dated April 1, 1959. The contract appoints Joyce the exclusive booking agent for the band at the rate of 10% "subject to attached rider." The rider stipulates that if any of Haley's recordings achieves top five status in one or more of the industry publications Cash Box, Variety or Billboard prior to Dec. 31, 1959, Joyce is entitled to 5% of Haley's earnings on those recordings from Decca Records, Inc. Joyce is further entitled to 10% of Haley's earnings from recordings "for the period commencing January 1, 1960 or thereafter." The contract page is signed twice by Haley in blue ink, once by Joyce. The contract dates to a time when Haley, who helped usher in the rock era with "Rock Around The Clock" in 1955, was experiencing a decline in popularity. The two pages exhibit several folds, marginal tears, otherwise VG.
