Description:

Scarce and unusual anti-organized labor publication, Lest We Forget: Berks County's Reign of Terror" (Reading, Pennsylvania: The Berkshire Employees Ass'n, Inc.), [1936], 16pp. 4to., decrying the October, 1936 strike led by the American Federation of Hosiery Workers against the Berkshire Knitting Mills. The pamphlet, purportedly published by an organization of anti-unionization employees of the mill, presents numerous photographs of damage to homes, businesses and automobiles purportedly caused by picketing workers, a facsimile of a newsletter distributed to picketers by the Communist Party of Berks County, a selection of negative headlines reporting on the vandalism, and more. A memorial to a worker killed during the riots appears on the first page. This is juxtaposed against commentary in favor of the Berkshire Knitting mills and its management, touting its modern medical clinic, its fair wages, and the fact that 80% of its work force refused to strike. Shows bumps to the corners, with a few small tears, else very good.
