1067. WILLIAM BENTLEY (1759 - 1819) American Unitarian minister, scholar, columnist, and diarist. Bentley spoke twenty-one languages, seven fluently, and was an inexhaustible reader and book collector. He eventually amassed a library of over 4,000 volumes. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Salem, June 4, 1816, apparently to a bookseller thanking him for sending a French catalog of books for sale, noting: "...The Medical Collection is an excellent one...". Closely-trimmed left margin bears a glue stain with a small, clean tear at lower-left, else very good. $150 - 200
