BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
(1706 - 1790) American statesman, inventor, and author, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Fine manuscript D.S. "B. Franklin Presid." as President of the Executive Counsel Pennsylvania, 1p. parchment folio, [Philadelphia], Oct. 31, 1785, a grant to Samuel Stephens of "...a Certain Tract of Land called 'The Square' Situate [sic] on the Waters of Great Redstone in the County of Fayette Beginning at the Corner post of John Johnson's land...". Franklin served as President of the Counsel for a mere three or four weeks, after being recalled from Europe on Sept. 14, 1785. Bearing a fine, brown blind-embossed star seal at top left, and additional round seal at verso. Light foxing throughout, usual folds, otherwise very good condition.
