BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
(1706 - 1790) American statesman, inventor, and author, Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Partial D.S. "B. Franklin Presid't", 1p. 6 1/4" x 3 1/4", [Philadelphia], Mar. 2, 1787, an endorsement reading: "Let a Commission issue as prayed for the directed to Matthew Clarkson, Matthew Mease, Peter Baynton and Richard Bache Esquires, or any four or three of them". Very good with a fine, bold signature, matted in burgundy cloth with a small hand-colored engraving and brass plaque, set into a gilt wood frame. The four named gentlemen were all prosperous and influential Philadelphia merchants.
